Wake and District commemorative challenge coins have been minted and are now available for sale.  For a tax deductible $15 donation (shipping free in the United States) we will send you a 1.75 inch diameter, die struck iron, soft enamel challenge coins with raised black metal plating coin featuring the following artwork:

The front of coin is a replication of the German propaganda medal showing the figure of "Death as a Scottish Piper". It was cast in 1915, probably after the battle of Loos in which Scottish regiments inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. It was designed by the German medalist Arnold Zadikow.

German soldiers developed their own view of Highland soldiers and were said by British propagandists to have nicknamed their kilted enemy 'the ladies from hell'. This back-handed compliment was rather appreciated in Scotland, although no evidence exists that it was anything but British propaganda.

The reverse side of the coin is emblazed with the Wake and District cap badge and motto. The design is a nod the Royal Regiment of Scotland and incorporates a "W" for the county seat where the band resides (Wake County, NC-USA) and the Lion Rampant of the Royal Standard of Scotland. The design is surmounted by a crown, in this case the Crown of Scotland. The band's motto is For Our Fallen -- which represents everything our members stand for.
